Sports Hall and Teaching Facility.

Location // Salendine Nook

Design and build construction of an independent steel frame and cladding sports hall with changing facilities and teaching rooms.

The building envelope consisted of a masonry cavity wall from foundation level to a height of 2550mm above the finished floor level.  The cavity was insulated with Kingspan insulation, which was taped at all joints, and was fixed to the steel stanchions to prevent cold bridging. Above the masonry, the building was clad in metal cladding consisting of liner sheet, insulation, and top sheet.

The building was designed to comply with relevant acoustic requirements and was tested accordingly. In the sports hall, reverberation times had to be controlled by using perforated boarding which had been modelled by Apex Consulting.

The walls between the sports hall and teaching areas had to be constructed with a sound resistant head detail which also allowed for the differential movement between the steel frame and the dividing masonry wall.
