The conversion of a historical Victorian Mill to form 30 student bedrooms with 6 Communal kitchen and lounge areas.
Although not listed, the building was of particular interest to the local conservation officers, and they were invited to partake in the discussions with regards roof finishes, windows and stone treatment. The building was completely refurbished/remodelled internally and externally with extensive flood defence requirements also required to the ground floor due to its location in respect of the flood plains.
Having undertaken numerous student accommodation projects previously NU were invited to progress the scheme with a developer new to this market. NU’s experience of internal finishes and particular advice in respect of tough materials and longevity in the environment were taken.
This site had a tight boundary with restricted/shared access, but NU management engaged with the local businesses to avoid clashes with deliveries etc.
There were also a number of historical features retained in discussions with the relevant officers and the completed building complimented its historical surroundings well whilst serving its intended use of housing students well.
A particular strength of Nu Construction is their personal attention to detail and the aptitude of their Managing Director and Commercial Director whose communication capabilities provide concise problem-solving results.
