NU Construction were awarded a contract for the alterations and refurbishment works to Providence House, Elland
External wind and weathertight repairs
NU Construction were originally instructed to carry out minor roof repairs. Unfortunately, overnight thieves stripped the lead from the roof which damaged a good majority of the slates leaving to us carrying out a full slate strip. This revealed several rotten timbers that needed replacing.
We also conducted structural works to the building comprising of timber lintels replaced by steel, new structural steels to support the roof structure and helical stitching to support existing stonework.
We had to conduct a controlled collapse of the existing front portico structure as it was deemed unsafe to work on or around.
Replacement conservatory
UPVC replacement units with a hard roof. Insulated with a rubber finished layer that offers up to 50 years protection.
Comprehensive internal refurbishment and associated repairs
General repairs to plasterwork and woodwork. Refurbished mosaic tiled floor and full decoration works. Stain blocking works throughout the building as the building was very damp, due to it being vacant for so long but also due to the water ingress due to the lead theft.
New mechanical and electrical installations.
This included new data cabling to the office, data trunking to all rooms housing small power and data, CCTV and wireless intruder alarm and external lighting. We also changed the boiler and heating elements to the plant room/basement. We replaced the existing sump pump to the basement.
Alterations to existing layout
We formed a new corridor/landing to the first floor which also created a new classroom layout.
Further works included the replacement of 3 no boilers and associated works.
It is an enormous credit to your team the building was ready and that the work had been completed to such a high standard.
