We are delighted to have recently appointed three new members of staff to our team, Site Manager, Craig Petre, Buyer, Aaron Parsons, and Trainee Quantity Surveyor, Jacob Gannon.
Craig Petre – Site Manager
Craig began his construction career with a nine-year stint as a Bricklayer, working with his father. At the age of 25, he moved to South Africa where he qualified and worked as a Site Manager. Returning to the UK in 1997 he found his South African qualification wasn’t recognised so he went on to complete an HND course at West Suffolk College.
During the following years, Craig worked as a Site Manager for Taylor Woodrow, SDC Builders in Bedford and, most recently, for Sheffield-based HP Construction. Projects undertaken with SDC included working on the Grade 1 listed Trinity College in Cambridge, whose oldest buildings date back to 1317.
Being from Sheffield, Craig knew little about Nu Construction before applying for the Site Manager role through an agency. However, since joining the team he has found it to be, “A really good company, where all the guys are fantastic.” While he’s currently finding his feet by helping out with site management on various projects, he’s really looking forward to getting stuck into his own project, with the first job scheduled for the start of November. Outside of work, Craig enjoys playing golf and going on walks with his wife.
Aaron Parsons – Buyer
Aaron began his construction career in retail, where he took an apprenticeship and worked as a sales assistant with building suppliers, Jewson. Following this, he worked for several leading construction companies, with roles as a Scheduler and then Assistant Buyer at Strategic Team Group, which was eventually acquired by Galliford Try Partnerships. He then worked as an Assistant Buyer and Scheduler at Linden Homes, which was bought-out by Bovis Homes. Following the merger of Bovis and Galliford Try to form the Vistry Group, Aaron was promoted to a Buyer at Vistry, which included a stint as a Buyer for B2B subsidiary, Countryside Partnerships.
Aaron joined Nu Construction as he was looking for a new challenge in a company that offered a wide portfolio and a variety of different projects, something he had missed from his early career. He says, “It feels very natural working at Nu Construction, though being the sole Buyer is a new exciting challenge.” After focusing on housing for many years, his familiarity with some projects makes him feel more comfortable as he settles into his new role.
Going forward, Aaron wants to continue developing his procurement experience within construction and show that he can be relied on as the sole Buyer for a continually changing list of sites. When not at work, Aaron enjoys everything from rock climbing and gaming to attending gigs and festivals.
Jacob Gannon – Trainee Quantity Surveyor
Joining Adam Hayes and Darren Turner, Jacob’s recruitment makes him the third member of the Nu Construction team to have played professional rugby. Joining Warrington Wolves straight from school in 2018, he moved to Bradford Bulls in 2022 before stints at London Broncos then Leigh Leopards, where he is currently on loan to York Knights. Due to his rugby commitments, Jacob currently works part-time at Nu Construction, however, he will begin working full-time in November 2024 when he starts playing rugby on a part-time basis.
As a Trainee Quantity Surveyor, Jacob is currently studying for an online degree in Quantity Surveying with the University College of Estate Management in Reading and will graduate in 2026. Living locally in Elland, he speculatively handed over his CV in person, just as the Commercial Director, Matthew Crowther was walking past. Luckily, the team were looking for a Trainee Quantity Surveyor and following an interview, he landed the job. As he moves from rugby to quantity surveying, Jacob is enthusiastic to learn everything about the multifaceted role.
Beyond work, Jacob is currently renovating his own house with the aim of working his way up the property ladder.
Craig, Aaron and Jacob bring with them a range of expertise, skills and experience that complement and extend the know-how already within the Nu Construction team.
No doubt, all three will play valuable roles in helping the company maintain the levels of quality and service it is renowned for. We welcome them to the team and wish them lots of success over the coming years.
